We are looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Minimum of five (5) years current related experience working with mental illness and addictions preferred; one (1) year required
  • Current BLS certification
  • Canadian Nursing Association Mental Health Nursing Certificate preferred
  • Certificate in Gentle Persuasion Approach, PIECES and Montessori preferred
  • Certification in Concurrent Disorders preferred
  • Current Safe Management Training Certification preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Status Exam, screening for addiction disorders, and use of withdrawal management scales.
  • Demonstrated crisis assessment and de-escalation skills, including use of restraints.
  • Working knowledge and skills in application of legislation including but not limited to the Mental Health Act, PHIPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced psycho-social and mental status assessment skills
  • Extensive knowledge and skills working with various types of mental health issues and addictions preferred
  • Medication administration inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician’s order
  • Knowledge of medication side effects preferred.
  • Demonstrated crisis assessment and intervention skills
  • Ability to assess, adapt and respond within a constantly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook email, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record)
  • Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program
  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record in alignment with STEGH’s Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct
