Food Safety Manager

The Food Safety Manager is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the food quality and safety assurance program. This role ensures compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including FSMA, HARPC, HACCP, and other potential certifications such as SQF or GMP. The position involves documenting, verifying, and managing food safety protocols and policies, supervising sanitation, and collaborating with regulatory agencies like the FDA and MDA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce food safety programs and policies.
  • Conduct hazard analyses of products and processes, including flow charts.
  • Manage and update sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs), allergen protocols, and process controls.
  • Oversee food defense programs and supplier approvals, including food fraud programs, COA reviews, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain training documents and product specifications.
  • Respond to customer document requests as needed.

Food Safety Documentation & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of FSMA, HARPC, HACCP, PCQI, and potential SQF or GMP certifications.
  • Proficient in maintaining food safety documentation using Word and Excel.

Routine Food Safety Verification:

  • Conduct routine food safety verification activities, including:
  • Weekly logs and GMP inspections.
  • Daily production schedules and work order reviews.
  • Monthly environmental monitoring and ingredient testing.
  • Pest control management, including liaison duties, lure placement, and activity checks.
  • Monitor incoming ingredients, including cream and apples.

Ingredient Database Management:

  • Review and update ingredient databases and product spec sheets for retail and wholesale operations.

Nutrition Facts Labeling:

  • Manage nutrition labeling using the ESHA Genesis R&D labeling program.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Collaborate with the FDA and MDA for inspections, recalls, and biannual food facility registration (current registration expires 12/31/2024).

Sanitation Supervision:

  • Oversee sanitation processes and ensure compliance with sanitation standards

Workplace Safety:

  • Assist with OSHA recordkeeping and workplace safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 5 plus years in a previous food safety role
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and certification processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with sanitation and safety protocols.
  • Ability to manage regulatory inspections and ensure compliance.
