Registered Nurse – Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment & Care Coordination: Evaluate patients’ physical and behavioral health needs to develop and implement personalized care plans.
  • Medical Documentation & Education: Maintain accurate medical records and provide education to patients and their families on various health conditions.
  • Compliance & Standards: Deliver nursing care in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act regulations, facility policies, corporate protocols, and industry best practices.
  • Physician Communication: Accurately transcribe verbal physician orders and ensure they are documented clearly and correctly as per established policies.
  • Ongoing Patient Monitoring: Continuously assess patient status, gather relevant information, and document findings effectively.
  • Critical Incident Response: Promptly notify physicians of any significant status changes, including medical emergencies, detox complications, or medication-related concerns.
  • Treatment Planning: Complete initial nursing treatment plans at the time of admission, tailoring them to meet each patient’s specific needs.
  • Infection Control & Safety: Apply universal precautions while delivering direct patient care to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications accurately as prescribed and maintain proper documentation of controlled substances.
  • Admissions & Discharges: Process patient admissions and discharges with efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Therapeutic Patient Engagement: Build strong therapeutic relationships by maintaining professional boundaries, respecting personal space, and providing patients with focused, compassionate care.
  • Unit Coordination: Oversee or assist in managing unit operations as needed to support team efficiency.
  • Professional Communication: Interact with patients, visitors, colleagues, and treatment teams with professionalism, empathy, and therapeutic intent.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Possession of a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee or eligibility to practice in accordance with state regulations.
  • At least one year of nursing experience (previous experience in psychiatric, mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse treatment is preferred).
  • Certification in CPR, de-escalation techniques, and restraint procedures (training provided upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required based on facility or state-specific regulations.
