About The Ned
In the 1920s, Midland Bank was one of the world’s most influential financial institutions. To mark its success, the bank sought a bold and distinctive London headquarters that would break away from the conventional Victorian architecture of The City. For this, they turned to Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, an esteemed architect renowned for his work with the elite.
Lutyens spent four years designing a grand 29,450 sqm, Grade I-listed building, reflecting the strength and stability expected of a bank. Over time, HSBC acquired Midland Bank, operating from the iconic space until 2007, when they moved to Canary Wharf.
In 2012, entrepreneur Ron Burkle saw potential in the historic space and envisioned a new era of hospitality. After five years of transformation, The Ned was unveiled in 2017, marking one of London’s most ambitious hotel launches in decades.
The Ned family expanded in 2022, introducing The Ned NoMad in New York and The Ned Doha in Qatar, each housed in architecturally significant buildings. In 2024, Ned’s Club Washington, DC will debut as the first standalone members-only property.
Regardless of the location, The Ned and Ned’s Club share the same vision: to create a vibrant space for like-minded professionals to connect, work, and enjoy life.
