About Amber Charter School
Founded in 2000 as New York’s first Latino-led charter school, Amber Charter School serves students across three campuses in East Harlem, Kingsbridge, and Inwood. Our K-8 program integrates Spanish language instruction with a strong core curriculum in literacy, math, science, and social studies.
Beyond academics, students engage in enrichment programs including visual arts, music, physical education, and technology. Our special education services at Amber Kingsbridge Elementary provide counseling, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) settings to support diverse learning needs.

Elementary Classroom Teacher
Position Overview
Amber Charter School is seeking a dedicated Elementary Classroom Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year, with employment tentatively starting in late August. The teacher will embody and promote the school’s mission, vision, and values, ensuring an inclusive and engaging learning environment. This role involves designing and delivering high-quality instruction that supports the diverse learning needs of all students.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction
- Develop and execute lesson plans aligned with the school’s curriculum and educational standards.
- Foster a love for learning through interactive, engaging, and creative teaching methods.
Classroom Management
- Establish a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement.
- Implement effective behavior management strategies to support student learning and collaboration.
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Conduct regular assessments to track student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to analyze assessment data and refine instructional strategies.
Parent & Guardian Communication
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with families regarding student achievements and areas for growth.
- Organize and participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work alongside colleagues, specialists, and support staff to foster a cohesive educational team.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices.
Technology Integration
- Incorporate digital tools and technology to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Ensure students develop essential digital literacy skills.
Cultural Competence & Inclusion
- Create a culturally responsive learning environment that celebrates diversity.
- Integrate diverse perspectives and materials into instruction.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- Proven experience as an effective educator with a track record of student impact.
- Strong knowledge of child development, pedagogical theories, and instructional best practices.
- Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and digital classroom tools.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Must pass pre-employment fingerprinting and reference checks.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Education.
- Two years of experience as a lead teacher in an elementary school setting.
- New York State Teaching Certification.
- Fluency in Spanish (speaking, writing, and comprehension).

Work Details
- Schedule: 10-month academic calendar.
- Equipment: Laptop, Promethean board, and other classroom/school tools provided.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, speak clearly, and operate classroom technology.
- Occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds.
- Work in a multi-floor school environment with limited or no elevator access.
