Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) is dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty by providing comprehensive, community-based programs that empower children and families to succeed in school, careers, and life. Through early childhood education, academic support, career development, community engagement, and wellness initiatives, HCZ creates pathways to economic mobility and long-term prosperity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Mathematics or Science (Grades 1-6, 5-9, or 7-12) required
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in an urban school setting
Role & Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that spark curiosity and promote mastery of core subjects
- Utilize diverse assessment methods—exams, projects, and written assignments—to track student progress and personalize learning experiences
- Set and uphold high academic and behavioral expectations, inspiring students to reach their full potential
- Implement varied instructional strategies, including direct instruction, hands-on activities, and collaborative learning, to enhance student engagement
- Work closely with teaching assistants and fellow educators to address individual student needs and foster a supportive learning environment
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a culture of trust, communication, and academic achievement
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, 7:40 AM – 4:00 PM
- 10-month academic year with optional summer teaching opportunities for additional pay
