RN I – Job Summary
The RN I provides general nursing care and treatment to patients in a correctional healthcare setting, working under the supervision of a Nurse Coordinator or designee. This role involves administering medications, monitoring patient conditions, and supporting overall medical care in accordance with department policies and professional standards.
RN II – Job Summary
The RN II performs all responsibilities of the RN I, with an additional focus on specialized nursing care, supervision, and advanced clinical decision-making. Working under the direction of a Nurse Coordinator or designee, the RN II provides comprehensive care while applying a higher level of expertise in patient assessment and treatment
Key Responsibilities
RN I & RN II
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, administer medications, and provide direct patient care within assigned units.
- Monitor, evaluate, and implement medical and nursing interventions to ensure quality care for prisoners and residents.
- Educate patients on their Plan-of-Care, offering guidance on achieving treatment goals.
- Gather and report pertinent medical and psychological data, relaying critical information to the Nurse Coordinator or healthcare team to guide patient care planning.
- Maintain effective communication by reporting significant patient updates, changes, and events to nursing leadership and providing detailed inter-shift reports.
- Coordinate with physicians, specialists, and allied health professionals, using clinical judgment to present patient conditions accurately and facilitate informed medical decision-making.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments while ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
RN I
- Education: Graduate of a recognized nursing program with clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatric nursing.
- Experience: No prior experience required beyond licensure requirements.
- License/Certification: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire.
- Special Requirements: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy and continued Certification as Correctional Line Personnel, as mandated by the certifying authority.
RN II
- Education: Graduate of a recognized nursing program with clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatric nursing.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a registered nurse in a setting relevant to the role.
- License/Certification: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire.
- Special Requirements: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy and continued Certification as Correctional Line Personnel, as mandated by the certifying authority.
