Medical Assistant Role
The Medical Assistant is responsible for delivering professional clinical care to patients in accordance with established standards and practices. This role involves preparing patients for office visits and supporting them and their families before, during, and after appointments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during treatments, procedures, exams, and tests.
- Clean, restock, and sterilize examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab areas, and other patient care spaces following established policies and procedures.
- Document patients’ medical histories, health maintenance information, and chief complaints.
- Accurately measure, record, and document vital signs.
- Perform phlebotomy, injections, and other specimen collections as directed by the provider, adhering to established protocols (where applicable).
- Educate patients by providing information and instructions as directed by the provider.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures and ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
- Sterilize medical instruments according to established standards and procedures.
- Relay messages between patients, front office staff, and providers efficiently.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and treat all customers, both internal and external, with courtesy and respect.
- Actively participate in team activities and pursue professional development opportunities.
- Attend mandatory meetings.
- Uphold and demonstrate the Women’s Care mission and core values.
- Ensure compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- (For Florida locations) Certified Medical Assistant preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within the first 120 days of employment.
- To qualify for Medical Assistant certification, candidates must either:
- Be a graduate of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program, OR
- Have served as a Medical Technician in the Armed Forces with an honorable discharge, OR
- Provide a letter of attestation from a currently licensed physician confirming at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last three years.
- To qualify for Medical Assistant certification, candidates must either:
- Current CPR and/or BLS certification preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment through Women’s Care training.
- Experience in OBGYN or Primary Care settings is a plus.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Proficiency in performing phlebotomy and administering injections.
