As a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse), you will:

  • Assess donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of any unsuitable findings.
  • Work under the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager, as applicable) for operational guidance and under the Center Physician for medical-related matters.
  • Be knowledgeable about plasma collection industry regulations and manufacturing environment protocols.
  • Follow BioLife Medical Affairs guidance and support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives at the center level.

How You Will Contribute

  • Determine donor eligibility, including:
    • Obtaining informed consent.
    • Providing AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion.
    • Conducting medical history interviews, physical exams, blood tests, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate and manage donor reactions that occur in the facility, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Respond to medical emergencies, adhering to SOPs, Center Physician’s standing orders, and protocols for emergency donor transport when needed.
  • Consult the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable donor findings, medical or technical concerns, and donor safety.
  • Support employee health initiatives, including Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents, determining if further evaluation is needed and referring to occupational health or emergency care based on EHS guidelines.
  • Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator, when authorized by EHS, and assist in investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as required by EHS or Medical Affairs.
