Key Responsibilities of a General Transportation Manager
Operations & Compliance
- Oversee daily transportation activities to ensure timely deliveries and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Develop and execute strategic improvements for logistics operations, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs.
- Monitor adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards, ensuring company policies and procedures are followed.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor associates and leadership teams within the facility.
- Provide direction, set performance goals, and foster professional growth opportunities.
- Support a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring a positive work environment.
Financial & Business Management
- Approve and track expenses to maintain budget alignment.
- Utilize data analytics to optimize asset utilization and financial performance.
- Review staffing forecasts to ensure efficient workforce planning.
Customer & Community Engagement
- Serve as a liaison between Walmart, local communities, and organizations.
- Champion corporate initiatives and promote company-sponsored programs.

Qualifications for a General Transportation Manager
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, and 3+ years in a senior management role within transportation, distribution, or logistics.
- OR 1 year as a Walmart Logistics Assistant General Manager, 3 years as a Walmart Logistics Operations Manager, or 5+ years in senior logistics/operations management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in compliance, financial analysis, P&L accountability, talent development, and transportation management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Logistics, Operations Management, or related fields.
