Job Summary:
As a key member of the clinic team, this role efficiently handles back-office duties, including managing patient flow, greeting and rooming patients, documenting patient histories, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with examinations and procedures. This position works closely with and under the direction of a physician/provider.
Job-Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages patient flow to optimize physician time, minimize delays, and ensure a positive patient experience.
- Collects initial patient history, accurately documenting vital signs and complaints in the medical record.
- Prepares patients and exam rooms for examinations or procedures.
- Assists physicians with examinations and procedures. Performs phlebotomy and necessary lab testing, or prepares specimens and orders outside lab tests. Performs radiological exams and EKGs as ordered.
- Cleans exam rooms after each patient and procedure. Scrubs, rinses, and places used instruments in disinfectant, and properly autoclaves instruments or prepares them for autoclaving at the hospital.
- Calls or faxes prescriptions and handles physician call-backs regarding patient test results as directed.
- Monitors and maintains equipment in good working order. Maintains medical stock, including obtaining purchase order numbers, and manages drug and medical supply inventory.
- Completes all tasks and documentation accurately and promptly.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- One year of experience working in a physician’s office is preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:
- Washington State Medical Assistant Certification is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, or must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
