About Us – Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT)
Established in 1992, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) operates across three main hospital sites: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Truro), St Michael’s Hospital (Hayle), and West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance). Additionally, we provide imaging, outpatient services, and birthing centres across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
We serve a resident population of approximately 474,000, with additional seasonal demand from tourists, which can more than double our patient numbers during peak times.
With a workforce of around 6,700 staff, including 400 volunteers and an in-house bank of over 1,500 flexible workers, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality care.
As a teaching hospital, RCHT is affiliated with the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry (PCMD) and the University of Exeter Medical School. We are committed to medical innovation, research, and expanding specialist care locally.
The Knowledge Spa, located at Royal Cornwall Hospital, serves as the Cornwall hub for medical education, supporting the University of Plymouth Faculty of Health and Social Work. This enhances our reputation for training and development, helping us attract and retain highly skilled healthcare professionals who care for over half a million patients annually.
