About the Role: Finance Controller

We are seeking an experienced Finance Controller to lead our financial management functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role will be responsible for corporate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities as a Finance Controller

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including billing, accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), general ledger (GL), cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Coordinate and direct financial planning, including budget preparation and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and publish timely and accurate financial reports, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Research technical accounting issues to maintain financial compliance.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and adherence to internal policies.

Compliance & Controls

  • Manage local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including tax filings.
  • Develop and implement internal controls and accounting policies to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring financial accuracy and timeliness.

Strategic & Leadership Duties

  • Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support business decision-making.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance on best practices.
  • Assist in cash management, audits, and financial risk assessments.

Required Skills & Qualifications for a Finance Controller

Education & Experience of a Finance Controller

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7+ years of financial and accounting experience, preferably in multi-family real estate.
  • CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting under US GAAP.

Technical & Software Skills

  • Proficiency in Yardi Software (Great Plains experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of financial management systems and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Basic IT knowledge to support financial technology integration.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel domestically/internationally as required.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and site visits for financial assessments.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends, as needed

Location Requirement

Candidates must be based within Orange County or within a 20-25 mile radius of our La Palma and Newport Coast Drive locations.
