About the job

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a DevOps Engineer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is working on a project that aims to transform the way they and the wider Civil Service manage and share content by introducing a centralised platform for collaboration, content sharing, and publishing. This innovative shared digital service approach will streamline their technology stack, development, and implementation of similar future platforms. Designed in response to feedback from business units and requests for content publishing tools, the project will facilitate seamless interaction, document sharing, and community building across government departments. The platform will also feature a unified access point, allowing convenient access to various professional and functional portals, with the potential to host public-facing information when necessary. As a result, this venture will empower cross collaboration by promoting the sharing of best practices, policies, and strategies through a single cohesive platform.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our cloud infrastructure, while implementing best practices for security and operational efficiency
  • Manage and optimise AWS resources, including EC2 for scalable computing, CloudFront for content delivery, and WAF and ALB for securing and load-balancing applications
  • You will design and implement VPC networks to ensure secure and efficient communication between services
  • Your expertise with Terraform will be critical in automating infrastructure provisioning and deployments, while your experience with Docker and ECR will support containerised application deployment
  • You will construct and manage code pipelines to automate testing, integration, and deployment processes, contributing to a streamlined development workflow

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a DevOps Engineer
  • Proficient in Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Extensive experience with services such as EC2, CloudFront, WAF, ALB, VPC, and ECR
  • Expertise with Terraform and Docker
  • Robust understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and experience in building and maintaining code pipelines for continuous integration and deployment
