Senior Controller

OVERVIEW

The Family Office is principally responsible for all accounting, tax, charitable, estate planning, insurance, legal coordination, banking, investment and to a lesser degree concierge services (e.g. bill paying).

The position within the Family Office will manage a very diverse set of business and personal family matters and provide the critical financial management support to manage these interests. In addition to the family office team (currently 6 people), the Family Office utilizes a small group of trusted external resources including attorney’s, investment advisors, Information Technology, payroll/benefits and CPA’s. There are over 150 legal entities/trusts/foundations.

OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the President of the Family Office, the position will have day to day responsibility to manage the existing Family Office team and provide operational and financial management for the family’s varied business, personal and charitable interests (entities) to instill a “best practices” philosophy in all functional areas in order to improve work flow, improve/simplify reporting and enhance service delivery to the family.

In addition to operational, financial and managerial leadership experience, the family is seeking a person who aligns with their core values and can help to support and maintain these values throughout the Family Office. POSITION SUMMARY

Family Office Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the family office:
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Office operations
  • Cash management
  • Information technology
  • Bill paying/household admin support
  • Manage and mentor Family Office staff
  • Coordination as necessary with external resources such as CPA’s
  • Ensure technology platform is robust and designed to protect family privacy

Investments

  • Enhance investment performance and balance sheet/net worth reporting
  • Strategic portfolio allocation model/planning
  • Investment administration/compliance

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Provide periodic financial reports for assets, p&l, cash flow and personal spending
  • Financial analysis/projects from time to time
  • Compliance and reporting requirements for a concentrated stock position
  • Maintain and develop Accounting & Operations Manual

Human Resources

  • Manage 3rd party outsource firm for payroll and benefits administration

Legal and Risk Management

  • Manage corporate and family insurance programs
  • Oversight of the 3rd party CPA agreed-upon procedures review

Charitable Foundations

  • Manage charitable giving and pledge obligations/cash flows
  • Planning for minimum required distributions

DESIRED CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be a discreet, self-driven person with broad business management experience and ideally should possess the following qualifications/characteristics:

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an extended track record of relevant financial experience
  • CPA and/or MS, tax exposure preferred
  • Strong leadership experience
  • Exceptional technical accounting and financial reporting skills and to develop meaningful and effective financial reporting tools
  • Experience in managing staff of 10 or more
