What Our Academic Support Coordinator Will Do
Mission: Our Academic Support Coordinator will be dedicated to supporting our students with learning differences and their academic, social, and professional advancement. As the school grows, our Academic Support Coordinator will go on to join a department that prepares every student to apply their knowledge to succeed in college and/or a career.
Job Description: Our Academic Support Coordinator needs to have a background in teaching Special Education and navigating the IEP administrative process. The Academic Support Coordinator will:
- Work with the Assistant Director of Academic Support to manage a caseload of special education students and the implementation of their IEP; knowledge of inclusive, self-contained and pull-out settings required.
- Have strong knowledge of, and familiarity with SESIS; they will be responsible for transferring information from IEP teacher reports and anecdotes into SESIS (PLOP, annual, transitional and post secondary goals).
- Provide quality control for various special education programming services (SETSS, Speech) as stipulated on the IEP.
- Understand all City, State and Federal special education laws; understand CSE regulatory expectations relative to students with IEPs, as well as students referred to special education.
- Effectively communicate the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual IEPs, and re-evaluations as well as parental rights granted by IDEA to families.
- Effectively build relationships with students receiving special education services.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Academic Support and CSE to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner (according to state, local, and school policies and procedures) prior to meetings; Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Academic Support and CSE team to ensure all team members (including parents) are prepared for the content of the meeting.
- Ensure that all IEP teacher reports and anecdotes are completed to meet CSE regulatory expectations; responsible for communicating with all designated staff to ensure that IEP reports are completed with precision and attention to detail.
- Facilitate annual review IEP meetings using a strengths based and family centered approach.
- Establish and maintain communication with applicable stakeholders, inclusive of parents/families of students with SPED and/or ELL designations.
- Facilitate meetings for parents, has knowledge/provides resources for parents of students with special needs.
- Engage parents and families in their student”s learning; act as an ambassador for the school in the community.
- Build/Maintain rapport with student”s outside providers, pediatricians, and therapists to support student”s needs in the classroom, as appropriate.
- Maintain a student filing system (paper and electronic) according to school and CSE standards.
- Provide support/assistance to teachers, related service providers and support service professionals on all aspects of case management; use of internal case management systems, creation/management of student goals, correspondence pertaining to annual reviews and parent communication is required.
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and parents to build an innovative, exciting, and effective school model that achieves our mission and impacts education reform nationwide;
- Be receptive to receiving vertical and lateral feedback from colleagues as well as managers, and participate in the formal 360 review process.
