Job Location: United States
Salary: $73.6K/yr
Company Name: Children's Institute

Company Overview

Children’s Institute was founded in 1906 and has been serving the Los Angeles community for more than 100 years. Children’s Institute works primarily in communities impacted by decades of underinvestment including Echo Park, Watts, Compton, and Long Beach. Children’s Institute supports 30,000 children and families annually in achieving emotional well-being and educational success, which build pathways to economic mobility and lifelong health. Our highly qualified and compassionate teachers, therapists, and care coordinators are the cornerstone of our work. We are fortunate to witness the many wins that families experience through our programs and services, from the “aha”! moments in the classroom to the breakthroughs in counseling sessions. It would not be possible without the care and expertise staff bring to their roles and the confidence they inspire in the people they support.

About the job

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Therapist is responsible for completing clinical assessments and providing therapy to individuals, families and groups. Uses independent judgment and discretion to provide individual, child, family and group therapy; counseling; crisis intervention; and advocacy services to children and families.

As a leader in trauma-informed care, Children’s Institute provides counseling services to children, adolescents, transition-aged youth and parents in our intensive and non-intensive behavioral health and wellness programs:

Intensive– CII offers several intensive behavioral health programs for children/youth between the ages of 0 to 21 years who have Medi-cal insurance and are experiencing a broad range of risky behaviors. We provide 24/7 crisis support, individual/family counseling and therapy, assistance with community resources such as housing and physical health care, psychiatric services and medication support. Services are offered in the home, school, telehealth and/or office.

  • Full Service Partnership (FSP) – is an intensive behavior health program that supports children/youth engaged in risky behaviors and their families.

  • Wraparound – is an intensive behavior health program that supports children/youth and their families who are involved with the child welfare system or probation.

Non-Intensive – CII also offers mental health services for young children ages 0-5 and school aged children. Each family gets personalized care and works with a dedicated staff member to select the services and support that best meets the caregiver and the child’s health and happiness.

  • Birth to 5 – is a mental health services program that supports families with babies and young children (up to 5 years old) who have concerns about how their child is doing. The Birth to 5 program offers information on the child’s development, supports activities to build the parent-child relationship at home, in school or at an office, and connects caregivers to additional educational services or resources through our programs and/or community partners.
  • School-Aged – supports the emotional wellness of school-aged children & adolescents who are experiencing challenges managing their feelings and behaviors. The School-Aged program provides short-term counseling services to children, adolescents and their families in the home, their school, at a CII community site, or via telemedicine as appropriate. Clients in the School-Aged program are Medi-Cal recipients living in LA Metro or South Los Angeles and experiencing behaviors that impact their child’s well-being and happiness.

Additional programs:

  • Culturally Informed and Flexible Family-Based Treatment for Adolescents (CIFFTA) – is an outpatient treatment for youth ages 11-18 designed to modify adolescent conduct problems, depression, school failure, family conflict, delinquency, drug use and/or problematic sexual behavior.
