Job Description

AHB Community School (http://www.ahbcs.org), an independent, accredited K-8 school in Austin, TX, is looking for a passionate and dedicated lower elementary classroom teacher.

Start Date: 2025-26 school year, optional Spring 2025

Position collaborates with a co-teaching partner in a mixed-age class of 20-22 students. The teacher:

  • Will be responsible for daily math and language arts instruction of one grade level (10-11 students),
  • Shares responsibility with co-teacher for instruction in science, social studies and community building for their mixed-age (2 grade level span) class of 20-22 students.

We are looking for a hard working candidate who cares deeply about educating and developing young people and wants to learn about and master AHB’s unique educational model. Depending on prior experience, a candidate has the opportunity to come in either as an equal teaching partner, or as a novice teacher who seeks mentoring.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, classroom teaching or related experience.

Preferred: Master’s degree, teacher’s license (or equivalent); 3+ years of classroom teaching or related experience, experience in progressive education school settings.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement quality instruction that actively engages students in the learning process. Teacher will research, curate and create curriculum units, using TEKS and AHB’s thematic maps as a guide; promote critical thinking and creativity with hands-on learning and cooperative projects; and use a variety of progressive teaching methods to reach different learning styles and skill levels.
  • Foster a climate that supports student engagement, belonging, and social-emotional learning. Teacher will build strong relationships with students, based on a spirit of mutual respect; emphasize growth mindset and model what it means to be a life-long learner; actively coach kindness and inclusion and help instill responsibility for one’s community; and help students develop confidence by providing meaningful work and opportunities for self advocacy.
  • Collaborate closely with AHB stakeholders to build and sustain a positive school and community. Teacher will strengthen the home to school connection through active and consistent parent communication; actively contribute to the school’s continued improvement and growth by working with administration on strategic planning, vertical alignment, and operational efficiency; and support recruitment and retention by positively representing AHB in school tours and events.
